Windows 8 is coming!
Firstly an apology. Haven’t been posting news for a while as we have been busy working IT miracles and working on some cool new stuff for Virtuoso, but more later.
We have also been running the Release Candidate of Windows 8, so far so good.
The only hiccup we have come across relates to the video drivers on our Graphics cards – driving 4 screens on each PC was never going to be easy! On rare occasions results in the “Windows is going to shut down in one minute…” error, which suggests its time to save your hard work and let it do its thing.
Windows 8 missing the start button has taken a little getting used to but press start, type and up pops the program you want to run, click (or in the case of a tablet, tap) and off we go.
We will post up useful snippets on Windows 8 and the forthcoming Office (which we are now playing with), but as a taster, here is a nifty little trick on Windows 8
If you want to run a desktop program, click Windows key, and the tiles appear, click the program and it runs. This is all good unless you want to run a new instance of the program, especially something like Remote Desktop (mstsc). If you have a remote desktop session open, click Start, then click on the Remote Desktop tile again, it takes you back to the already open connection (bah!), however if you hold the Shift key, then click the tile you get a new instance of Remote Desktop. This works with all Desktop Applications, Word, Excel etc…
Enough for now, but more to come soon.
